| The Finished Product -- My bother-in-law is allergic to tree nuts, hence the Heath bars only covering part of the cake. |
I saw this recipe on Facebook a few months ago and ever since I've been dying to try it! However, I've also simultaneously been trying to not eat desserts, sweets, cookies etc. So this recipe went on the back burner along with my entire Desserts Board on Pinterest (so many yummy looking treats I'd love to try some day *sigh*).
Well, we've been visiting family in Utah, and I thought it would be the perfect time to splurge a little and also share the goodness (so I wouldn't eat it all).
My brother, who also loves cooking/baking, helped me out and it was a blast!
First you bake a box devils food cake mix as directed. After it's done, wait five minutes and then poke some holes and spread sweetened condensed milk and caramel topping over it. Refrigerate. Then Spread cool whip over the top and squirt (that's a good word) chocolate syrup and more caramel over the whipped topping! Top with crushed Heath bars! Super easy!
I thought this was a great dessert for a crowd. Everyone loved it, it was simple, and it was really fun to make with my youngest brother--so I feel like it would be a fun activity to do with even younger children who are eager to be "helpers"!
If you do try, just be warned that it is incredibly rich and addicting---my family ate the entire cake! (I may have even had two pieces--shhhhh!)
